Why X-ray children’s teeth?
X-rays are taken to diagnose cavities in between your child’s teeth. Few discoveries have done as much to improve the quality of dental care.
Office policy on X-rays:
We believe that dental X-rays are essential in evaluating your child’s dental health. X-ray evaluation is individualized for each child.
The need, type and frequency of X-rays will be based on your child’s age, dentition and dental history.
We may take several types of dental X-rays in our office:
- The posterior bitewing X-rays consist of two films taken to detect cavities between the teeth. Bitewing X-rays are taken at six-month to one-year intervals depending on your child’s history of dental decay.
- The panoramic film is a full-mouth X-ray taken when the first permanent tooth erupts (approx. 6 years of age), when most of the permanent teeth have erupted (approx. 12 years of age), and prior to the eruption of the third molars (approx. 17 years of age). The film is used to check for dental disease and to analyze growth and development.
Your child will be evaluated at each check-up as to his or her need for X-rays. By working together, we can help assure that your child achieves the best dental health possible.
